What is Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting is a way of eating that involves cycling between periods of eating and fasting. During the fasting window, you consume zero calories, and during the eating window, you eat your meals as usual. The idea is to give your body a break from constant digestion. Doing this, has been proven to help with accelerated weight loss, weight management and provide other impressive health benefits.

The beauty of an intermittent fasting diet is that it allows our bodies to tap into stored fat, providing us with energy. This promotes various physiological benefits including weight loss, improved insulin sensitivity, reduced inflammation, increased energy levels and more. There are several popular intermittent fasting methods, such as the 16/8 method or the Warrior Diet/OMAD fasting routine that helped me successfully lose 46 Pounds in 4 months.

What Does “CLEAN FASTING” Mean?

Although the benefits of intermittent fasting are many, it is crucial that one stick to “clean fasting” to obtain optimal results and benefits throughout the fasting period.

“Clean fasting” refers to a strict form of intermittent fasting where only calorie-free and additive-free beverages are consumed during the fasting period. This means abstaining from anything that could potentially trigger an insulin response. This includes things like sugars, artificial sweeteners, and even creamers in coffee. Clean fasting aims to maintain the physiological benefits of fasting, such as fat-burning, by ensuring that the body remains in a fasting state without any interference from ingested calories or substances that could affect metabolism.

The 4 Best Intermittent Fasting Drinks

Let’s take a closer look at the 4 best “clean” drinks you can have during intermittent fasting!

4 Best Clean intermittent fasting drinks.

#1 PLAIN WATER

Plain water is the ultimate clean drink, as it hydrates without any calories. Getting plenty of water on any diet is always a very good idea.

Drinking plain water is essential during intermittent fasting for both health and weight loss. Staying hydrated supports various bodily functions, including digestion, circulation, and metabolism. Water helps curb hunger pangs and cravings, making it easier to stick to an eating pattern and control calorie intake. Moreover, adequate hydration aids in the breakdown of stored fats for energy, aligning with the goals of weight loss.

By opting for calorie-free beverages like water without additives or calories, you ensure a clean fasting approach. Clean fasting maximizes the benefits of fasting, such as improved insulin levels and enhanced fat burning.

Incorporating plenty of plain water into your fasting routine not only promotes overall health but also enhances the effectiveness of your weight loss efforts.

#2 PLAIN SPARKLING MINERAL WATER

Now, if a plain ole’ glass of water is starting to bore you a bit, you can spice up your life with some mineral water while in the fasted state.

Plain Sparkling Mineral Water is an excellent drink to have during intermittent fasting.

Can you say GAME CHANGER? Once I began drinking plain sparkling mineral water, intermittent fasting became an absolute breeze! I don’t exactly know what it is but the bubbles and the carbonated water does something truly magical inside your tummy.

This carbonated beverage provides hydration without any calories or additives, making it another smart choice for clean fasting. The effervescence of sparkling mineral water can help curb appetite and provide a sense of fullness. This satisfying feeling truly helps manage feelings of hunger during fasting periods.

Additionally, the natural minerals found in this type of water, such as magnesium and calcium, can contribute to overall health.

My favorite sparkling water brands are: LaCroix “Innocent” and “PurAqua Italian Sparkling Water” (this one can only be found at Aldi Grocery Stores). I love them both because they are super yummy and very cost effective. Just remember to choose varieties without any added flavors or sweeteners to ensure that you do not BREAK YOUR FAST.

#3 PLAIN HERBAL TEAS

Herbal teas, like plain, unflavored, green and black teas, are also clean options, often containing no calories or negligible amounts. It is important to make sure that the tea is plain, unflavored, and brewed from actual dried leaves.

GREEN TEA

Green tea is an awesome intermittent fasting drink because there are so many massive benefits. It not only improves your health, but simultaneously aids in shrinking your waistline and lowering your body weight.

13 Benefits of Green Tea. How to Lose Weight and Get Healthy!

Offering a myriad of benefits, green tea makes a popular intermittent fasting drink. Packed with antioxidants like catechins, green tea supports the body in combating oxidative stress, reducing inflammation, and promoting overall well-being. One particular catechin, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), has been associated with boosting metabolism and enhancing fat oxidation. This has been shown to aid in weight loss efforts.

Green unsweetened tea may also help regulate blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity, reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Additionally, its moderate caffeine content can provide a gentle energy boost, while the amino acid L-theanine induces a sense of calm alertness. Incorporating green tea into your daily routine can be a delightful way to hydrate while fasting.

BLACK TEA

Another popular and flavorful intermittent fasting beverage is black tea because it boasts a range of health and weight loss benefits. Rich in antioxidants called polyphenols, black tea helps combat oxidative stress, reducing the risk of chronic diseases and supporting overall health. These compounds have been linked to potential improvements in heart health because they promote healthy cholesterol levels and enhance blood vessel function.

Additionally, black tea contains compounds that may aid in weight management by supporting metabolism and fat oxidation. Regular consumption of black tea has also been associated with improved gut health due to its potential prebiotic effects.

#4 PLAIN BLACK COFFEE

Drinking plain, unflavored black coffee while fasting can offer numerous health and weight loss benefits. Additionally, coffee is one of the easiest ways to achieve so many amazing benefits like lowering our risk for some diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Cancer and Cirrhosis.

With virtually no calories, black coffee can help sustain the fasting state, allowing your body to tap into stored fat for energy. It has the potential to suppress hunger and the natural caffeine content provides a gentle energy boost that may enhance focus and alertness. Additionally, black coffee is known to boost metabolic rate. It also promotes thermogenesis, which can aid in burning calories. The antioxidants in coffee, such as chlorogenic acid, can also contribute to reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.

It’s extremely important to avoid adding sugar, cream, or sweeteners, as they can disrupt fasting and introduce unnecessary calories. Giving up the bulletproof coffee and removing these additions to our coffee can be a difficult habit for many to break. However, it can be done and just by making small changes like taking all of the crap out of your coffee, you’ll be on your way to. a healthier lifestyle in no time.

If you are struggling with the plain black coffee taste, I have two great tips for you to try. First, invest in drinking high quality coffee. I think this makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE. My absolute favorite, can’t live without black coffee, is STARBUCKS Medium Roast Breakfast Blend. Check it out HERE!

Starbucks Breakfast Blend Black Coffee is my favorite.

Next, you can try adding a pinch of salt to your morning mug. It totally reduces the bitterness and enhances the coffee’s natural flavors. It totally works!

Can I Drink Apple Cider Vinegar While Fasting?

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a topic of debate when it comes to its impact on fasting. While some proponents believe that a small amount of ACV doesn’t significantly impact the fasting state, others argue (myself included) that any substance containing calories or affecting digestion could potentially disrupt fasting benefits.

ACV contains minimal calories and sugar, so having a small amount might not entirely break a fast for some individuals. However, if you’re aiming for a strict fast for autophagy or other fasting benefits, it’s best to consume only plain water, mineral water, herbal teas and black coffee.

I personally love apple cider vinegar and break my fast with this awesome ACV fat-blasting recipe each and every day.
