Embarking on an intermittent fasting journey? The right groceries can make all the difference! Welcome to the best intermittent fasting grocery list for FAST weight Loss. So What IF? with Jen is about to unveil a delicious and nutritious selection of grocery store foods that perfectly align with your intermittent fasting health and weight loss goals.

In 2021, I adopted an intermittent fasting lifestyle, lost 46 pounds in 4 months and have easily kept the weight off for over two years now.

In this post, I’ll share with you the exact intermittent fasting food list that I used to lose weight fast. Get ready to supercharge your fasting experience with a shopping list designed for success.

What is Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting is not your traditional calorie deficit focused diet plan. It’s an eating pattern that cycles between eating periods (eating window) and fasting periods (fasting window). This approach is flexible and offers different types of intermittent fasting methods including the 16/8 method, alternate-day fasting, OMAD, the 5:2 diet and more.

It has become a popular trend that has helped many individuals reach their weight loss goals. Additionally, there are many overall health benefits of intermittent fasting including an improvement in energy levels, blood pressure, insulin sensitivity (blood sugar control), heart disease and much more.  

What are the Best Foods to Eat While Intermittent Fasting to Lose Weight?

When it comes to losing weight with an intermittent fasting diet, choosing the right foods is key! And, whether your daily eating period is an 8-hour window or a 4-hour window, it’s important to focus on nutrient-dense foods like lean proteins, colorful vegetables, and healthy fats. These foods keep you full, provide energy, balance blood sugar levels and can make all the difference in the world when it comes to your weight loss success.

Additionally, I found that sticking to a low sugar and relatively low carb diet really helped accelerate my weight loss results, which is why most foods on this intermittent fasting grocery list will be just that – low in both sugar and carbs.

LEAN PROTEINS

Protein-rich foods are helpful when trying to lose weight because they provide a sense of fullness and satiety. Additionally, getting enough protein supports muscle mass preservation during weight loss, helping to maintain metabolic rate and promote fat loss.

Lean Proteins are very important foods to have on an intermittent fasting grocery list!
  • LEAN MEATS – CHICKEN BREASTS and GROUND TURKEY are a must
  • COTTAGE CHEESE – Try adding to eggs – a yummy way to up your protein intake
  • TWO GOOD GREEK YOGURT – this stuff is THE BEST weight loss yogurt around. Here’s Why
  • EGGS – hard-boiled eggs make amazing low-carb, high-protein easy snacks
  • HIGH QUALITY PROTEIN POWDER – My favorite is QUEST
  • POWDERED PEANUT BUTTER – Organic PBFit is my Fav!
  • ALMOND BUTTER – perfect for spreading on celery sticks and other fun foods

FRESH FRUITS & VEGETABLES

What successful balanced diet and weight loss plan would be complete without superhero fruits and vegetables? Besides having numerous health benefits, fruits and vegetables generally have fewer calories. They are also very helpful for weight loss due to their high fiber content. Fiber helps by promoting a feeling of fullness, reducing overall calorie intake, and supporting digestive health. Additionally, they are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, supporting overall health and providing essential nutrients.

However, some fruits and vegetables are definitely more weight-loss friendly than others, which is why I’ve listed the ones that should most definitely be added to your cart during your next trip to the grocery store.

Fruits & Veggies - Intermittent Fasting Grocery List

VEGETABLES

  • LEAFY GREENS like Kale, Spinach and Romaine Lettuce are all great for making antioxidant-rich salads
  • BRUSSELS SPROUTS – You have got to try my Roasted Feta Pesto Brussels Sprouts. You can WATCH exactly how to make this awesome recipe RIGHT HERE!
  • BELL PEPPERS – I love to make Tangy Pepper Sandwiches for a quick lunch or an easy and filling afternoon snack.
  • CAULIFLOWER – Instead of white or brown rice, save carbs and calories by making cauliflower rice. Check out my low-carb Creamy Cauliflower Risotto recipe RIGHT HERE! It is so delicious!
  • MUSHROOMS – They make a great addition to soups and salads and they are also a perfect replacement for meat dishes too.
  • ZUCCHINI (Save some serious calories and greatly reduce your carb intake by using this veggie spiralizer to make zucchini noodles or zoodles instead of regular pasta)

FRUITS

  • RASPBERRIES – Did you know that raspberries can actually help reduce dangerous visceral fat. They are absolute ROCKSTARS when it comes to weight loss. Find out why RIGHT HERE!
  • BLUEBERRIES – they have a very high content of antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, which have been linked to improved insulin sensitivity, reduced belly fat, and enhanced metabolism.

  • STRAWBERRIES – who doesn’t love strawberries – C’mon, enough said!
  • PEARS – they simply don’t get the attention that they truly deserve. They are low in calories, high in water content and packed with fiber. Pears also may help alleviate constipation and improve gut health too. YAY!
  • MIXED FROZEN FRUIT – Perfect for making yummy weight loss smoothies. I have found the best deal on these (Mixed Berry Medley) at ALDI Foods.

FOODS WITH HEART HEALTHY FATS

Healthy fats play a crucial role in supporting weight loss during intermittent fasting. Unlike saturated and trans fats, healthy fats such as those found in avocados, nuts, and olive oil provide sustained energy and contribute to a feeling of fullness. Including these fats in your diet helps regulate hunger, preventing overeating during eating windows.

  • AVOCADOS – these babies are an absolute SUPERFOOD for sure
  • GHEE – Perfect for healthy cooking. Find out all about the MAGIC OF GHEE for health and weight loss RIGHT HERE!
  • OLIVE OIL – Great for making delicious salad dressings
  • COCONUT OIL – Use it to make these super yummy Keto diet friendly Coconut Bombs. They are delicious and will help you fast EASIER and LONGER too. My favorite brand is Kirkland Organic Virgin Coconut Oil.
  • NUTS – Try to stick to the 7 best low carb nuts (especially Almonds and Walnuts) when possible.
  • FLAXSEEDS and CHIA SEEDS – Easily sprinkle them into your Greek Yogurt and Smoothies
  • FATTY FISH – Salmon, Mackerel and Sardines are all great choices packed with Omega-3 fatty acids for heart health.

QUICK SNACKS

Having quick and healthy snacks readily available is crucial when aiming to lose weight, as it helps curb sudden cravings and prevents impulsive, unhealthy food choices.

BEST DRINKS FOR INTERMITTENT FASTING

  • HERBAL TEA -Black or Green Teas are excellent
  • BLACK COFFEE – be sure to buy a good quality coffee since black coffee is one of the four “fasting drinks” recommended during your “clean fasting period.”
  • SPARKLING MINERAL WATER (Plain and Flavored) My favorite brands are LaCroix, Waterloo and Belle Vie from ALDI
  • APPLE CIDER VINEGAR – ACV is awesome for breaking your intermittent fast with. Just make sure you get organic with the mother. I like BRAGG Apple Cider Vinegar the best and use it when making my ACV Fast-Breaking WEIGHT LOSS COCKTAIL. And don’t forget – it’s always a good idea to dilute ACV before drinking it.

EXTRAS: And if you have any room left in your cart, I would highly suggest grabbing a few bonus items that will help tip the scales in the right direction for you.

Head to the baking aisle and snag a bag of organic coconut flour.
